About Vite Colte
Vite Colte is the quality-focused wine project of the Piedmontese cooperative Terre da Vino. It works with growers from several parts of Piedmont and brings together wines from appellations that each occupy a distinct place in the region’s tradition. This broad geographical base explains the range: from the hills of Langhe and Roero to Monferrato, Gavi and the area around Caluso. The name refers to carefully selected vines and parcels, with an emphasis on grape varieties historically associated with Piedmont.
Piedmont is shaped by mountains on three sides. Altitude, continental seasons, autumn fog and marked differences between limestone, clay, sand and marl create wines with clear identities. Barolo and Nebbiolo d'Alba are based on nebbiolo, a grape known for firm tannins, bright acidity and considerable ageing potential. In Barbera d'Asti, barbera usually gives juicy cherry and blackberry fruit, lively acidity and less tannin. Dolcetto d'Alba is often more immediate, with an almond-like note, while Roero Arneis, Gavi from cortese and Erbaluce di Caluso show the region’s fresh white-wine side.
The red range includes Essenze Barolo and Paesi Tuoi Barolo, alongside Valdolmo Nebbiolo d'Alba, Roccabella Dolcetto d'Alba and several wines from Asti barbera. La Luna e i Falò Barbera d'Asti Superiore, San Nicolao and Rossofuoco offer different readings of barbera. The white wines include Villata Roero Arneis, Masseria dei Carmelitani, Aureliana and Cà da Bosio Gavi, as well as Merlana Erbaluce di Caluso.
Vite Colte’s style centres on recognisably Piedmontese grape character in polished, approachable wines. The selection therefore ranges from fresh, aromatic whites for relatively early drinking to structured nebbiolos that can benefit from bottle age. Barolo is a natural partner for substantial dishes, while barbera is especially versatile at the table because of its lively acidity.
