About Villa Borghetti
Villa Borghetti is a Veneto producer with a broad regional focus, centred on the classic wine areas around Verona. Its range connects Valpolicella and Bardolino with Lugana on Lake Garda and Pinot Grigio delle Venezie. Specific details about a founding date, family history and individual vineyard holdings are not essential to understanding the house style: the portfolio is clearly rooted in Veneto’s traditional grapes and appellations.
Valpolicella is the core, especially Valpolicella Classico and Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore. The Classico zone, northwest of Verona, is the historical heart of the denomination, with hills, limestone-rich soils and a moderately continental climate. Corvina generally provides the backbone of the blends, with Rondinella, Corvinone, Molinara and sometimes Negrara Veronese playing supporting roles. Straight Valpolicella is usually juicy and cherry-led, whereas Ripasso gains additional depth and structure through a second fermentation on Amarone grape skins.
Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is the most concentrated red in the range. Selected grapes are dried after harvest through the appassimento process, producing a dry, powerful wine with ripe red and black fruit, dried herbs, chocolate-like nuances and substantial alcoholic weight. It suits dishes with real depth and will generally age better than Valpolicella or Bardolino.
Bardolino Classico expresses Verona’s lighter, more refreshing side, with redcurrant, tart cherry, floral notes and soft tannins. Bardolino Classico Chiaretto, its rosé counterpart, is usually dry, lively and light on its feet. Lugana, made from Trebbiano di Lugana, or Turbiana, brings citrus, white peach and almond-like minerality. Pinot Grigio delle Venezie completes the selection with an approachable, crisp white style. Taken together, these wines make Villa Borghetti a useful introduction to both the everyday and more gastronomic traditions of Veneto.
