About Villa Annaberta
Villa Annaberta is a Venetian wine label focused on the red wines of the Verona hinterland, especially Valpolicella Ripasso and Amarone della Valpolicella. Its name appears on a range that places regional traditions alongside broader categories such as Rosso Veronese. The portfolio is therefore not confined to one appellation: its centre of gravity is Veneto, with styles shaped by the grapes and winemaking practices associated with the Verona area.
Valpolicella lies north and east of Verona, between Lake Garda and the foothills of the Alps. A moderate climate, with cooling influences from both mountains and lake, can help grapes retain freshness. Corvina is the area’s principal red variety, commonly bringing cherry, sour-cherry, herbal notes and a distinctive almond-like nuance. Rondinella contributes colour and fruit, while Molinara, where included, may add further lift and freshness.
Amarone della Valpolicella is made from grapes that are partially dried in the appassimento process. Concentrated sugars, flavours and skins produce a dry, powerful red wine with ripe and dried dark fruit, spice, cocoa and often a warm impression of alcohol. Ripasso Superiore is produced by bringing Valpolicella wine back into contact with the skins from Amarone or Recioto. It generally gains more depth, structure and dried-fruit character than standard Valpolicella, while often remaining more immediately approachable than Amarone.
Alongside these classic denominations, Villa Annaberta includes Rosso Veronese wines such as Canaja, Canaja Gold and Jairo. These broader categories may incorporate international grapes as well as local varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Croatina. Amarone, including a Private Collection bottling, is the range’s most concentrated and cellar-worthy style. The wines suit savoury food particularly well: Ripasso with braises and pasta ragù, and Amarone with game, aged cheeses or slow-cooked beef.
