About Moët & Chandon
Moët & Chandon is one of Champagne’s major historic houses. Founded by Claude Moët in 1743, it developed into an internationally recognised producer of sparkling wine from the strictly delimited Champagne appellation. The house is part of LVMH and, with annual production of around 28 million bottles, ranks among the world’s largest Champagne producers.
Its foundations are in Champagne in north-eastern France. Moët & Chandon owns about 1,190 hectares of vineyards and, as is customary for a large négociant-manipulant house, also works with grower-supplied fruit. Its vineyard holdings and sourcing extend across Champagne’s key areas, including Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs. The cool climate and chalk-rich soils preserve the lively acidity essential to balanced Champagne.
Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay are central to the blends. Pinot Noir contributes structure and red-fruit character; Pinot Meunier brings suppleness and fruit; Chardonnay adds freshness, citrus notes and finesse. The house style is generally approachable and consistent, combining ripe fruit, brioche-like maturation notes, fresh acidity and a fine mousse. The precise composition varies by cuvée and harvest.
Impérial Brut is the signature non-vintage expression of this style. Impérial Rosé follows a similar line with more red-fruit character. Grand Vintage wines are vintage cuvées, made only when the house considers a harvest suitable; they are usually more individual and more suited to bottle development. Nectar Impérial and its rosé counterpart are demi-sec and noticeably sweeter, while Ice Impérial was designed to be served over ice. Moët & Chandon is particularly known for its scale, technical consistency and recognisable, versatile Champagne style.
