About Masso Antico

Masso Antico is a wine label focused on the sun-filled viticulture of Puglia, in Italy’s southern heel. In this range, the emphasis is on approachable, ripe reds from grapes including Primitivo and Negroamaro, alongside a white Fiano. The name evokes the stone and Mediterranean landscape associated with the region; detailed information about a separate historic estate or estate-owned vineyards is not widely documented.

Puglia has long, dry summers, abundant sunshine and moderating influences from both the Adriatic and Ionian seas. These conditions readily bring grapes to full ripeness, often resulting in deep colour, generous fruit and supple texture. Primitivo commonly suggests plum, black cherry, dried fig and sweet spice. Negroamaro tends to be darker and more savoury, with spice and a characteristic pleasantly bitter note on the finish. Fiano can bring freshness, floral notes, ripe pear, citrus and almond.

The Appassito wines are a defining part of the range. In appassimento, grapes are partially dried after harvest, concentrating sugars, flavours and structure. The Appassito Primitivo therefore generally has a full, soft and generous profile. Appassito Fiano pursues a riper, more layered expression than a very light white wine, while freshness remains important. The Negroamaro places greater emphasis on dark fruit and savoury spice.

Il Potere belongs to the range’s powerful southern idiom: a concentrated red-wine style suited to roasted or slow-cooked meat dishes. Overall, Masso Antico is known for contemporary Puglian wines in which ripe fruit, soft tannins and a warm Mediterranean character take centre stage. Serve the reds slightly cool, around 16–18 °C, to keep their fruit and spice clearly defined.
