About Dom Pérignon
Dom Pérignon is the prestige cuvée of Moët & Chandon, named for Dom Pierre Pérignon, a Benedictine monk who worked at the Abbey of Hautvillers. He was an important pioneer of quality in Champagne, notably through careful selection and blending. The frequently repeated claim that he invented sparkling wine or the Champagne method is, however, a myth. The name instead evokes a sustained pursuit of precision and quality.
The wine is made only as vintage Champagne: each release comes from a single harvest and is issued only when conditions are judged suitable. Fruit is drawn from selected Champagne vineyards, with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir at the centre of the blend. Chalk-rich soils and Champagne’s cool northern climate provide the high acidity, finesse and capacity for slow bottle development on which the style depends.
The Brut Champagne is generally dry and layered, combining fresh citrus and white stone fruit with toast, brioche and chalky mineral notes that deepen with age. Pinot Noir contributes structure, depth and often red-fruit character, while Chardonnay brings tension, refinement and lift. Brut Rosé usually shows more red fruit, spice and gastronomic breadth, while retaining the house’s fresh profile.
Extended ageing on lees is fundamental to the wines. Alongside the regular vintage release, the Plénitude range includes P2, a later release after substantially longer cellar ageing, intended to show a more evolved and complex expression of the same vintage. Oenothèque bottlings refer to mature wines held in the cellars. Special releases such as the Lenny Kravitz and Chef de Cave Legacy editions are principally distinctive presentations of these cuvées. Dom Pérignon is valued for its capacity to age, its clear vintage identity, and its balance of youthful energy and mature complexity.
