About Corte Sant'Alda

Corte Sant’Alda is a producer in eastern Valpolicella, in the hills around Mezzane di Sotto, northeast of Verona. The estate was founded in 1986 by Marinella Camerani. From the outset, her approach has been small-scale and rooted in place, with attention to old vines, living soils and vineyard work. Corte Sant’Alda is therefore among the producers shifting the focus from a generic Valpolicella style towards the identity of individual slopes.

Its vineyards lie in the Mezzane valley, a comparatively cool eastern area of the denomination. Altitude, exposure and soils containing limestone, clay and stone shape grape ripening and wine structure. The estate follows organic and biodynamic principles. This does not automatically define a wine style, but it suits its aim of obtaining healthy fruit, freshness and a clear expression of vineyard origin.

Corvina and Corvinone are the principal grapes, usually supported by Rondinella and Molinara. Corvina contributes cherry fruit, herbs and drive, while Corvinone often adds colour, tannin and darker fruit tones. For Amarone, grapes are partially dried after harvest through appassimento. This concentrates aroma, flavour and structure, although careful winemaking remains essential if the wines are to retain energy.

Campi Magri Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore represents the estate’s fuller, dry Valpolicella, gaining additional depth through the ripasso method. Amarone della Valpolicella is the broader reference point for the house style. Valmezzane Amarone della Valpolicella is tied to a specific vineyard and generally offers a more site-specific expression. Corte Sant’Alda is particularly relevant to drinkers looking for Amarone with ripe fruit and concentration, but also savoury spice, freshness and the capacity to age.
