About Château Mont-Redon

Château Mont-Redon is one of the established estates of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the southern Rhône Valley. Its reputation rests on a substantial, coherent vineyard holding in the appellation and on a classical interpretation of local grape varieties. Alongside Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the estate makes wines from Côtes-du-Rhône and Lirac, offering several expressions of the southern Rhône: from approachable, fruit-led wines to more complex bottlings with genuine cellar potential.

The Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards lie in a warm, dry Mediterranean climate, where the mistral can quickly dry the vines after rain. A major part of the local identity comes from the famed rounded stones, or galets roulés, found over soils that include clay and limestone. These stones absorb heat during the day and release it at night, while the vines often need to root deeply for water. Differences in elevation, exposure and soil allow Grenache and the other varieties to play distinct roles in the blends.

The red Châteauneuf-du-Pape is generally centred on Grenache, with Syrah, Mourvèdre and sometimes Cinsault providing support. Grenache contributes ripe red fruit, herbs and suppleness; Syrah adds colour, pepper and darker fruit; Mourvèdre can bring structure and earthy depth. The intention is not simply richness, but balance through freshness, savoury detail and tannic frame. Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc typically combines Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne, Bourboulenc and Picpoul Blanc, producing dry whites with citrus, white flowers, stone fruit and often a saline or almond-like note.

The range also includes red, rosé and white Côtes-du-Rhône wines, as well as Lirac. The Vignoble Abeille and Vignoble Fabre names identify separately presented cuvées within the collection. Côtes-du-Rhône is usually the most immediate and versatile style at the table, while Lirac may show a firmer southern Rhône profile. Château Mont-Redon is especially useful for drinkers wishing to compare regional Rhône wines with the layered, terroir-focused character of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
