About Biscardo
Biscardo is a Verona-based producer best known for accessible wines from Veneto and neighbouring Italian origins. Its range spans classic regional categories, including Valpolicella, Amarone, Prosecco and Pinot Grigio delle Venezie. The name is therefore familiar to drinkers exploring the varied wine traditions of north-eastern Italy, alongside selected bottlings from areas such as Rubicone.
Verona provides the natural setting for the portfolio. In the Valpolicella hills, north and west of the city, Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella are the key red grapes. The climate combines continental conditions with the moderating influence of Lake Garda, while altitude, aspect and soils vary markedly from valley to valley. For Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, grapes are dried after harvest, concentrating sugar, colour and flavour. Ripasso is made by passing Valpolicella wine over Amarone pomace, a process that can add depth, body and structure.
Among the reds, Neropasso Veneto Rosso is a recognisable appassimento-inspired style, with ripe dark fruit, dried-cherry notes, spice and a supple texture. Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is more concentrated and powerful, while Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore generally occupies the ground between fresh Valpolicella and rich Amarone. Enigma Apassimento Sangiovese Rubicone shows that Biscardo also applies the drying approach beyond Veneto.
The white and sparkling wines have a lighter profile. Oropasso brings together Garganega and Chardonnay, while Pinot Grigio delle Venezie is generally fresh and straightforward. The Prosecco Spumante Millesimato wines are based on Glera and aim for a lively, fruit-led sparkling style. Biscardo is thus not defined by one single appellation, but offers a useful introduction to established Italian grapes, methods and origins.
