About Allesverloren

Allesverloren is a historic wine estate in the Riebeek Valley, near the Kasteelberg in Swartland. It is one of the established names in this part of the Cape and has long been associated with both red and fortified wines. That dual focus defines the estate: alongside dry, full-bodied reds, it has maintained a traditional approach to fortified wine.

Swartland lies north of Cape Town and has a Mediterranean climate, with winter rainfall followed by generally warm, dry summers. Around Riebeek-Kasteel, changes in elevation and the presence of the Kasteelberg add local variation, although drought and ripeness are central concerns in most seasons. These conditions suit varieties capable of retaining character while developing concentration, spice and firm tannin. Careful vineyard work and picking decisions are therefore important in preserving balance.

The red-wine range centres on Shiraz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon. Shiraz commonly brings dark fruit, pepper and savoury notes, while Cabernet Sauvignon contributes cassis-like fruit and structure. Tinta Barroca and the Portuguese varieties Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão reflect the estate’s fortified-wine heritage, contributing colour, fragrance and tannin. Chenin Blanc represents South Africa’s leading white grape in the range.

Key bottlings include Tinta Barocca, Shiraz, Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as Chenin Blanc. Fine Old Vintage, Port and Reserve Port belong to the fortified side of the portfolio: rich, sweet wines often marked by dark fruit, spice and, with age, dried-fruit or nutty nuances. The dry reds are naturally suited to the table and, depending on the cuvée and vintage, can reward several years in bottle. Allesverloren is best understood as a classical Swartland producer where robust red wines and a fortified-wine tradition meet.
