About Domaine du Père Caboche

Domaine du Père Caboche is a family estate from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, linked to the winegrowing history of the Boisson family. That history reaches back to the eighteenth century, while the name Père Caboche refers to an ancestor of the family. The estate works in both the celebrated Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation and the wider Côtes-du-Rhône. Its range therefore offers two views of the southern Rhône: more layered, site-led wines alongside more immediate bottlings for earlier drinking.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape has a warm Mediterranean climate, abundant sunshine and the frequent, forceful mistral wind. Its vineyards cover markedly varied soils, including the famous rounded stones as well as sand, clay and limestone-rich sites. This diversity matters: stones retain heat, sand can bring finesse, and clay helps to preserve moisture. Grenache is the foundation of many reds; Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault and sometimes Carignan add colour, spice, structure and freshness. In the whites, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Roussanne and Grenache Blanc are among the important grapes.

The estate's red Châteauneuf-du-Pape is generally built around ripe red fruit, garrigue herbs, pepper and a warm yet not necessarily heavy texture. Vieilles Vignes Elisabeth Chambellan focuses on old vines and is usually the more concentrated, cellar-worthy expression. Création d'Emilie is another of the estate's more distinctive Châteauneuf-du-Pape selections. White Châteauneuf-du-Pape reveals a different side of the appellation, combining floral and herbal notes with stone fruit or citrus, often in a rounded, food-friendly palate.

Domaine du Père Caboche also makes Côtes-du-Rhône and the Le Petit Caboche range in red, white and rosé. These wines reflect the southern Rhône idiom but are generally intended for a younger drinking window. The estate is particularly useful for drinkers wishing to explore both classical Châteauneuf-du-Pape and a broader Rhône selection through one producer.
