Meursault

Meursault is a renowned appellation situated in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France. The climate is continental, marked by warm summers, cool winters, and significant diurnal temperature shifts that help maintain the wine's freshness and acidity. The gently rolling vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soils with occasional pockets of marl and gravel, imbuing the wines with notable complexity and minerality.

White Meursault is almost exclusively produced from Chardonnay, accounting for about 98% of the region’s output. These wines are famous for their opulence and texture, featuring flavors of ripe apple, hazelnut, honey, and a distinctive creamy and buttery character, often enhanced by oak aging. While a small amount of red Meursault is made from Pinot Noir, it represents only a minor part of production and is less commonly seen.

There are no Grand Cru vineyards in Meursault, but it boasts many highly regarded Premier Cru sites such as Les Charmes, Les Perrières, and Les Genevrières. Wines from these lieux-dits are sought after for their aging potential and layered complexity, evolving beautifully over time.

Classic pairings include creamy fish preparations, lobster, poultry in sauce, and aged cheeses like Comté. Meursault can be enjoyed young for its vibrancy, but the best examples benefit from cellaring, developing nuanced flavors and depth.
