About Salton
Salton is one of Brazil's oldest and most recognized wineries, playing a significant role in shaping the country's modern wine industry. Founded in the early 20th century by Italian immigrants in the Serra Gaúcha region of Rio Grande do Sul, Salton has since grown to become a pillar of Brazilian wine, expanding its vineyard holdings into areas like Campanha Gaúcha and even sourcing grapes from neighboring Argentina, including Mendoza.
The vineyards are mainly situated in Serra Gaúcha, known for its cool, rolling hills and fertile soils. This region's temperate climate allows for a lengthy ripening period, fostering wines with lively acidity and aromatic depth. Salton works with various grape varieties, such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Moscato, and Tannat, producing both still and sparkling wines. Serra Gaúcha, in particular, has garnered a reputation for quality sparkling wine.
Salton's style spans from approachable, fruit-forward entry-level selections to complex, cellar-worthy reds and elegant sparkling cuvées. The winery is famed for its sparkling wines, like Èvidence Brut and Moscatel, noted for their finesse and vibrant bubbles. Its reds, such as Talento and Desejo Merlot, are recognized for their ripe fruit, supple structure, and balance between tradition and modern winemaking techniques.
Innovation is a hallmark of Salton, who continuously explores new methods in both vineyard and cellar. Its expansive portfolio covers classic styles—Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot—as well as creative blends and specialty bottlings, making Salton a reference point for both tradition and progress in South American winemaking.
