Pagos del Rey is a Spanish wine producer whose range brings together several recognised Spanish wine regions, including Toro, Rueda and Rioja. Its wines illustrate a central feature of Spanish wine culture: grape variety, appellation and ageing practice all help define the final style. The portfolio consequently moves from brisk, aromatic whites to substantial reds with the structure to develop. It also includes Albariño wines, adding a distinctly Atlantic expression to the selection.
Toro, in Castilla y León, lies along the Duero River and has a continental climate of hot, dry summers and cold winters. Its reds are based on Tinta de Toro, the local name for a Tempranillo type. Old vines, described as viñas viejas, generally give naturally low yields and concentrated fruit. Gran Bajoz Viñas Viejas, Gran Conquero Viñas Viejas and Sentero Expresión Viñas Viejas reflect this regional and old-vine focus. Conquero Joven Toro represents a more youthful, immediately fruit-led Toro style, while Gran Conquero Madurado en Barrica 12 Meses indicates a wine matured in oak for twelve months.
In Rueda, Verdejo is the defining grape. It makes dry whites with citrus, white-fruit and herbal notes, sometimes with a subtle fennel-like character, supported by lively acidity. Pulpito Verdejo belongs to this fresh and approachable family of wines. Rioja provides another important red-wine reference point: Tempranillo is its leading variety, producing reds that can show red and dark fruit, spice and refined tannins according to origin and maturation. Auténtica Tempranillo Rioja and Condesa de la Sierra Reserva represent this side of the range.
Pulpo Albariño and Centola Albariño point to a fresh Albariño style. Albariño commonly combines citrus, peach and floral aromas with energetic acidity and a saline impression.
