About MontGras
MontGras is a Chilean producer closely associated with the Colchagua Valley, one of the country’s leading red-wine regions south of Santiago. While the winery works with fruit from more than one Chilean origin, Colchagua is central to its identity. Sunny, dry days and cooling influences ultimately linked to the Pacific give the region a long growing season, helping red varieties reach ripeness while retaining useful freshness.
The estate’s key site is Ninquén, known as the Mountain Vineyard. This elevated vineyard in Colchagua combines poorer soils, altitude and marked day–night temperature variation. Such conditions generally encourage smaller, more concentrated berries and can bring both structure and aromatic definition to the wines. Ninquén supplies the eponymous wine and is an important source for the Antu range.
Carmenère and Cabernet Sauvignon are at the heart of the red portfolio. Reserva Carmenère typically reflects a recognisably Chilean expression, with dark fruit, spice, green-pepper-like notes and rounded tannins. Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon is generally firmer in shape, showing blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedar and often a measured oak influence. Merlot, Syrah and blends of Cabernet Sauvignon with Carmenère or Syrah broaden the range; Quatro Red illustrates MontGras’ interest in red blends.
The Antu wines are more concentrated and structure-driven, including Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and a Cabernet Sauvignon–Carmenère blend. Ninquén is positioned as a wine of greater depth and cellaring potential. MontGras also makes Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Sémillon, presenting both the warmth of Colchagua and the wider range of Chilean viticulture.
