About Château La Tour Carnet

Château La Tour Carnet is one of the historic names of the Haut-Médoc, on Bordeaux’s Left Bank along the Gironde. In the Official Classification of 1855, the estate—then listed simply as Carnet—was ranked among the ten Quatrièmes Crus, or Fourth Growths. That classification remains a central reference point for the château’s standing. Its name is linked to a site with a long past, and the château’s distinctive, medieval-looking tower is a familiar feature of the landscape around Saint-Laurent-Médoc.

The Haut-Médoc lies north of the city of Bordeaux and covers a broad area with varied soils. Gravelly rises are particularly significant, as they drain freely, retain warmth and are well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. Around Château La Tour Carnet, clay and sand also play a part, giving Merlot a useful place in the blend. The temperate maritime climate of the Médoc calls for close vineyard work and careful selection according to the conditions of each vintage.

The red wines follow a classical Médoc approach. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot generally form the core, supported by Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and, at times, Malbec. The aim is a profile of blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedar, tobacco and graphite, with firm yet refined tannins. Oak maturation may add spice and shape while preserving fruit and freshness. In youth, the wines can be reserved and tightly framed; bottle age brings more complex savoury and earthy notes.

Alongside the grand vin, the estate offers several cuvées under names including Les Pensées, Les Douves, Sire and Servitude Volontaire, as well as Haut-Médoc and Médoc bottlings. Bordeaux Blanc is also part of the range, with Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris among the relevant grapes. Château La Tour Carnet will appeal to drinkers looking for a classified Médoc estate with a strong historical identity and red Bordeaux capable of developing in bottle.
