Vin de France

Vin de France is the national French wine category without regional indication, offering freedom in blending, grape variety, and style.

300 wines from 204 wineries in our database

Vin de France is a national wine classification introduced in 2010, replacing the former table wine (vin de table) category. Wines labeled Vin de France can come from anywhere in France and do not specify a particular region, giving producers the flexibility to blend grapes from diverse areas across the country.

Because grapes may be sourced from multiple regions, soils and climates vary widely within Vin de France wines. This flexibility enables winemakers to use a wide range of grape varieties and create styles that suit both traditional and modern tastes. You’ll find an array of wines under this category, from light and fresh to more robust and complex.

A broad spectrum of grape varieties is permitted, including popular French grapes such as Grenache, Syrah, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Carignan, Cinsault, Sauvignon Blanc, and Cabernet Franc. The label may state the grape variety and vintage, which is not always allowed in more regulated French appellations.

Vin de France covers a wide range of wine styles: crisp whites, full-bodied reds, refreshing rosés, sparkling expressions, and both blends and single-varietal bottlings. As there are no regional regulations, these wines are often approachable in style and price, and they are typically made for early drinking, though some can be more serious.
