Viajero is a wine name whose available records link it to Chile and Spain, with the Central Valley and Valencia listed as its regions of origin. Chile’s Central Valley covers a large part of the country’s centre. On the red side, Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Merlot take centre stage. Carmenère is closely associated with Chile and often gives dark-fruit notes, herbs and a soft, rounded structure. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot generally offer more cassis or plum fruit and structure, while Pinot Noir can be lighter and more nuanced. Viajero is therefore particularly relevant to drinkers who want to compare classic and aromatic grape varieties in styles suited to sunny wine regions in Chile and Spain.
