About Nativ
Nativ is a producer from Irpinia, the mountainous inland area of Campania. The estate works in a landscape quite different from the warm coastal image of southern Italy: elevation, cool nights and a relatively continental growing season favour gradual ripening. Native varieties are central to Nativ’s work, with Aglianico and Fiano as key grapes, alongside wines released under broader Campania appellations.
Irpinia’s vineyards lie in the Apennines around Avellino and neighbouring villages. Soils vary considerably by site, though clay, limestone and deposits of volcanic origin are common. This combination can give Aglianico structure, freshness and earthy depth. In this setting, Fiano usually retains tension and can develop notes of citrus, white flowers, herbs and nuts with bottle age. Fiano di Avellino is one of the region’s leading white DOCG appellations, while Campi Taurasini is an important name for Aglianico-based red wines from Irpinia.
The range includes both wines tied closely to place and broader cuvées. Eremo San Quirico and Eremo San Quirico Gold are among the best-known red labels, joined by Blu Onice Aglianico Irpinia, Rue dell’Inchiostro and Bicento. These wines place Aglianico at the centre: a grape associated with black cherry, plum, dried herbs, smoke and firm tannins, and one that often rewards bottle age. Velluto Rosso Beneventano Aglianico and Suadens Campania Rosso extend the estate’s Campanian red-wine offering.
On the white side, Fiano di Avellino is an essential reference point. Suadens Campania Bianco and Campania 25 Rare show Nativ’s interest in other southern Italian white varieties, including Greco, Falanghina, Malvasia and Catarratto Bianco. The house style combines ripe fruit with the fresh backbone Irpinia can provide. Nativ is particularly worth knowing for the contrast between structured, ageworthy Aglianico and layered, food-friendly white wines from Campania.
