About Bodega Norton
Bodega Norton is one of Mendoza’s long-established producers. It was founded in 1895 by the English engineer Sir Edmund James Palmer Norton, at a time when modern viticulture was expanding rapidly in Argentina. In 1989 the estate was acquired by Austrian businessman Gernot Langes-Swarovski. Norton has since remained associated with a broad range of Mendoza wines, from approachable varietal bottlings to origin-focused and more extensively matured wines.
Its vineyards are in Mendoza, including holdings in Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley. Norton has five farms; according to the available company information, more than 1,200 hectares are suitable for vines and 680 hectares are planted. Luján de Cuyo is a traditional heartland for Argentine Malbec, with vineyards in the Andean foothills. The Uco Valley generally sits at higher elevations and has marked day–night temperature shifts, conditions that can help retain freshness while building colour and aromatic definition.
Malbec is the centre of the range. The Colección and Roble wines show a straightforward, fruit-led expression, often with ripe plum and blackberry notes and a supple palate. Reserva and Barrel Select place greater emphasis on selection, concentration and oak ageing. Malbec D.O.C. refers to the protected Luján de Cuyo designation of origin, which sets rules for provenance and grape variety. Finca Perdriel Centenario and Finca Perdriel Colección point to the importance of the Perdriel area within Luján de Cuyo.
Alongside Malbec, Norton works with Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Sémillon and Chenin Blanc. Privada Family Blend is among its best-known red blends, bringing Malbec together with Bordeaux varieties. The house style generally favours ripe Andean fruit, a generous rather than necessarily weighty texture, and enough freshness for balance. The Finca La Colonia range provides an accessible introduction to Mendoza wine.
